Athens Sights, Sounds and Hotels
Stairs hewn from rock ascend the hill of the Areopagus (The Hill of Mars), just below the entrance to the Acropolis, which was the site of the Council of Nobles and the Judicial Court in ancient Athens. It is where the Apostle Paul preached his Sermon on an Unknown God, when he came to Athens to proclaim Christianity in 54 AD. This is where he converted Dionysious, “the Areopagite,” who became Athens patron saint.
